St. Nicholas: A Parish That Prays Hard and Plays Hard!
Building community is the core of our Parish Life. Opportunities for participation in social events and fundraisers are abundant at St. Nicholas. Using our gifts of time, talent, and treasure we all are called to care for and build up the many parts of our diverse parish community. Throughout the year we mark a number of events large and small that are a big part of who we are.
WINTER PARISH PARTY
Winter Parish Party is one of our most important fundraising opportunities. It is a fun and relaxed party that combines dinner, dancing, silent and live auction events to support the ministries of our parish. Held just before the beginning of Lent, it is a great way to push away the winter blues and support our parish at the same time. It’s also a great way to dive right into the fun side of our community! Singles, couples, new and long-time parishioners are welcome. PARISH PICNIC A highlight for the summer! This is an opportunity for summertime fun and for parish fellowship for all ages. The committee overseas the planning and set up for the parish picnic that takes place on the lakefront or in a local park in June. RUMMAGE SALE Many hands are needed for our annual Rummage Sale that takes place in July. This annual summer event builds community and family support as we share our experiences with fellow buyers. KERMES Hispanic Religious Education and Youth Ministry families hold annual festivals in the courtyard or Oldershaw Hall of the church to help raise funds for their programming. These festivals are held all day long on one Sunday during various times throughout the year. Mexican delicacies, music, and dance are part of this traditional event. ST. NICK'S FEST The St. Nick's Fest is a yearly parish fund-raiser, in honor of our patron saint, St. Nicholas, and consists of a Christmas tree and greenery sale, Craft Fair, Raffle, and Pasta Dinner followed by a visit from St. Nicholas himself. It takes place the first weekend in December. ANNUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST Youth Ministry hosts its annual pancake breakfast in Oldershaw Hall. This annual event builds community, gives the youth of the parish a chance to serve, and supports youth in their programs. |
